Introduction
Current fraud-proof algorithms are susceptible to Sybil attacks, impacting security, decentralization, and (settlement) liveness.
In Devcon 2024, we presented Dave, a novel algorithm that offers an unprecedented combination of these three properties. We demonstrate that there's no realistic Sybil attack capable of exhausting defenders' resources or causing significant delays, even with minimal bond requirements. The paper can be found here.
This presentation focuses on the theoretical properties of fraud-proof algorithms, rather than the current development stages of any specific protocol that may or may not have training wheels. Nevertheless, if the underlying algorithm isn't resistant to Sybil attacks, the training wheels can never be safely removed.
